A California lawmaker's attempt to force a vote on AB 2641, a bill to end sanctuary protections for illegal immigrants convicted of sex crimes against minors, was abruptly cut off on Tuesday. Assemblyman Bill Essayli motioned for a vote to put state Democrats on record.
The bill seeks to repeal state law provisions that prevent local authorities from participating in federal immigration enforcement, including prohibiting officers from asking about immigration status and notifying immigration authorities of a suspect’s release from custody. "You cannot get a clear answer out of them about why we should not deport child sex predators," Essayli said.
This bill must be passed by the end of this week!
